Join a Walking Tour for Geelong Design Week 2024

Celebrating Geelong’s vibrant design community and its UNESCO City of Design status, Geelong Design Week returns this November with a program that brings together innovation, sustainability, and creative collaboration across a diverse range of design disciplines.

From workshops and exhibitions to forums and walking tours, the event promises to connect local and international voices, showcasing Geelong’s role as a leader in design excellence. Running from 21 to 30 November 2024, this year’s edition will feature both online and in-person events spread throughout the City of Greater Geelong, offering everyone a chance to explore the power of design in shaping communities.

Here are two walking tours we recommend:

Designing Djilang

  • Presented by: Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation
  • Location: Leaving from the Wadawurrung Scarred Tree at Wurriki Nyal forecourt

Djilang, the Wadawurrung name for Geelong, translates to ‘Tongue of Land”. For thousands of generations, prior to colonisation, this area was a maruda or common ground where it was unlawful to harm others. Join a walk with Corrina Eccles, Wadawurrung Woman and Cultural Strengthening General Manager for a walk around Central Djilang, to look at ways Wadawurrung Culture has been embedded into the urban environment and to learn more about the Wadawurrung aspirations for Wadawurrung Country.
