  • Time: 30 minutes
  • Terrain: Trail/Sand

Easy

Near the western border of Victoria, approximately 4 hoursโ€™ drive from Melbourne, the Little Desert forms but a fraction of the larger bioregion in which itโ€™s situated, yet offers a rare opening for walkers to access the remote beauty of this location. The Pomponderoo Hill Nature Walk samples the typical Victorian desert experience, tracking through Stringybark country along a sandy trail marked with an assortment of animal tracks and insect habitats. The half-way lookout from atop the dune provides a distant view of the Wimmera River, tree-lined with Red River Gums. Best in spring when orchids and wildflowers are in bloom.
